James Koll (Canada)

James Koll is a Canadian artist who has become known for his meticulously executed watercolours that explore and rejoice in the play of light and shadow upon landscape and still life subjects. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Canada and abroad and has achieved Signature Status with the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Born and raised on the west coast of Canada, he graduated from the Commercial Art Program at Capilano College in 1986 and worked as an illustrator in advertising and architecture. He now dedicates himself full time to painting and teaching in the fine art field.

“My inspiration for a painting is usually some everyday experience of the world around me. Having been fortunate to have grown up in a part of the world with abundant and varied natural beauty, I feel a deep-rooted connection to the rugged landscapes and waterscapes found here. That connection often presents itself in my work.”

IWM2026 is his first appearance at IWM and his UK debut.
