Guy Gruwier Demonstration

Guy Gruwier, born in Ypres 1963, creates clear, fresh and vibrant watercolours of nature landscapes. With more than 35 years of experience, his paintings emerge in 3 dimensions from the white of the paper due to a refined combination of subtle colour variations. He pays a lot of attention to the strength, transparency, luminosity and light fastness of his basic pallette, thereby using only the three primaries, resulting in a maximum colour harmony. Through a very keen observation of nature and the use of a balanced amount of water, he obtains an enormous depth in his landscapes. For Guy, understanding the technique in watercolour painting is key to success.

What is Guy’s drive behind painting ? “ Making a painting is a creative process, of which the painting itself is only a result. Therefor, this end result does not define the artist, but the preceding and ongoing process of painting does. It starts with an observation and a unthinkable desire to fix a landscape idea on paper for ever.“

IWM2026 is Guy’s debut appearance in the UK. He will make his IWM Arena demonstration  debut on 21st May .
