“My work is a meditation on impermanence, desire, and the fragile boundary between being and non-being. Influenced by Daoist philosophy, Zen aesthetics, and Schopenhauer’s reflections on will and suffering, I seek to illuminate the transient nature of existence through the fluidity of watercolour. The medium—often associated with lightness and spontaneity—becomes for me a vessel for weight, silence, and deep introspection.
I embrace the unpredictable character of watercolour, layering calligraphic strokes with atmospheric washes to blur the line between form and formlessness, presence and dissolution. Landscapes, figures, and abstractions emerge not as fixed depictions but as mirrors—reflections of the inner self caught in cycles of longing, surrender, and transformation.
My paintings invite stillness. They ask the viewer not simply to look, but to linger—to question what is real, what is illusion, and what remains when all else fades. In the midst of uncertainty and fragility, I seek a quiet truth—an unspoken recognition that we, too, are ever dissolving, ever becoming.”
Jenny Jie Li has an International reputation for the excellence of her work and creative process. She is widely collected and has paintings in private and corporate collections.
