Jeannie McGuire is an American figurative artist known for her strong watercolor paintings of people. Her works depict an underlying story, which is developed or found anew throughout her creative process. Studies of human character are communicated in such works as “Kenneth,” the American Watercolor Society’s 144th Gold Medal of Honor selection.
McGuire often finds inspiration from real-life situations, literature, and film to develop her story-based art into genre-specific series. Her work has been described as a combination of emotion, movement, natural design, and artistry that has been expanded upon from her days as a commercial graphic designer and photographer.
Her works are included in private and public collections and have been displayed and awarded on an international level, including in the USA, France, Italy, and China. Featured articles are represented in numerous national and international art magazines.
McGuire further dedicates herself to her craft by mentoring individual artists with specific art projects.
“In order to keep my art fresh, I challenge myself with a question: Is it predictable or unpredictable? An otherwise spontaneous and uninhibited painting can come to a halt of indecision many times.
To embrace this indecision and unknown with an unpredictable approach is risky and difficult. Yet it is exciting and creative, and often, well worth it.”
