Xin Yi (China)

“ I am Yixin, a watercolour artist originally from China and now living in New Zealand. My work is deeply influenced by Eastern culture, embracing classical aesthetics and a pursuit of poetic beauty. I am particularly drawn to the principles of “reserved space” and “expressive brushwork” in traditional Eastern art. In my paintings, I strive for a simple yet evocative expression through colour and brushstrokes, using the unique fluidity and transparency of watercolour to create a sense of poetry in my compositions.
In my creative process, I focus on refining the essence of a scene, employing a visual language that balances realism, expressiveness, and abstraction. Through my art, I aim not only to capture the beauty of landscapes but also to convey the profound artistic spirit inherent in Eastern traditions.
